From the New York Times editorial endorsing you-know-who:
In his convention speech in Denver, Mr. Obama said, “Government cannot solve all our problems, but what it should do is that which we cannot do for ourselves: protect us from harm and provide every child a decent education; keep our water clean and our toys safe; invest in new schools and new roads and new science and technology.”
Well, I’d vote for that.

Yes, me too. Let’s hope the majority of Americans think so.
Yep. Now if government could stop trying to tell me what my morals should be, I’d be very happy. Unfortunately, most Americans seem to put an awful lot into the category of “that which we cannot do for ourselves”. Funny how that is, in a country that says its foundational principles are independence, achieving through individual effort, and personal freedoms.
I must admit (as an outsider) that I’ve always found it curious how many Republicans seem most anxious to control people’s conduct of their personal lives whilst loudly proclaiming the opposite – I’m thinking issues of gay marriage, abortion, civil rights, religious freedom etc. I suppose I’d see Democrats as more interested in the control of people’s social lives – lives lived as they effect others (owning automatic weapons and so on).
I’d vote for that too!
Me too.
I’m all for empowering the people. I’m so ready for the US to become a sense of pride again.
Fingers crossed over here.
me too.
Yup, me too. I’m hoping and praying.
