- The new Hold Steady album, “Stay Positive”. Life affirming, New Jersey rock’n'roll from anguished Catholic boys. Think punk rock down strokes, Roy Bittan piano, a lyrical, rasping growl of a vocalist and scarily literate lyrics.
- I’m off work today trying to work out some ominous public sector-ish budgetary issues. It seems to have coincided with a small bout of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (I think) so my yoga practice has been limited to the kind of poses that massage my stomach. It’s not a period of time where I’m enjoying my job.
- Dudelette wants to stand up. It’s utterly charming for about a minute, then one’s arms start to get very tired. Still, I think she’s going to go straight from sitting to walking, though she’s started to carefully inch forward from a sitting position onto her tummy without getting distressed when she really wants to reach something.
- Dudelet had his first end of year school report from nursery (he starts reception in September). It was immaculate and in sharp contrast to most of his behaviour around us at the moment. I’m still prevaricating about digging into another epic discipline post
- The other record I’m obsessed with at the moment is the Crystal Castles album. Kind of laptop-py, bleeping, old fashioned synths with bursts of noise and femal vocals.
- There is no six.

I hope you feel better… I imagine dealing with public-sector budgetary issues would upset my belly too.
And I hope Dudelette crawls…very good for motor development!
Why is it that children are so wonderful with others and then raging loonies with their parents? WHY?
Oh, IBS is irritating. Hope you get better soon.
The baby wants to stand too but he is still too small. He is a lot more aware of his surroundings though for his age and looks a lot bigger too.
Ray starts year 1 in September and his reception’s end of year report was also very charming which left us wondering what we do differently at home :)
Hey – Achelois, I can’t believe how fast it’s gone!
I think the thing that keeps us going is knowing that hardly anyone else has a four-year old who isn’t behaving like a monster for a considerable chunk of time…
That Hold Steady album is the business. NOt sure if I’ll grow to love it as much as the last one, but that’s a tall order anyway.
